Topolia Gorge

topolia - the gorge of caves

The Gorge of Topolia south of Kissamos is impressive with its wild and rich vegetation.

The gorge beings within a short distance from the village of Topolia to the south and ends after 1,5 km at the village of Koutosmatado which is a starting point for various walks to Sassalo, Mouri and the traditional settlement of Milia.

Kournas Lake

kournas - the fresh water lake of crete

A panorama almost reminding of alpine mountain lakes presents itself five km to the south of Georgioupoli in the spurs of the Lefka Ori.

The above lying village of Kournas gave its name to the waters, which present Crete's single fresh water lake and serves mainly the irrigation of the surrounding fields.

Gramvousa & Balos

Gramvousa & Balos - the pirates' island & the lagoon

The uninhabited peninsula of Gramvousa offers the visitor the wild beauty of the huge rocks, bushes and wild flowers that cover it.

It is located on the northwest corner of Crete where the west coast of the gulf of Kissamos projects northwards and forms a promontory that the ancients named Korykos Akran.

Elafonissi & Chrisoskalitissa

elafonissi - the exotic lagoon

An amazing beach and captivating landscape; this idyllic lagoon with the pink sand and the green-blue waters is visited by thousands of tourists every summer. And not in vain since it truly is a dreamlike destination. The water here is so shallow that you can walk to the opposite isle.

Agia Irini Gorge

from agia irini tou sougia

The valley starts above the village of Agia Irini (at the water dividing line between north and south Crete), narrows to a gorge a little south of the village and ends in Sougia.

The walk to Sougia takes a total of 4 hours and can be done throughout the year, provided that it hasn't rained in the preceding days.

Imbros Gorge

Imbors gorge - small but full of wildness

When people from Sfakia say "the gorge" they are of course referring to the Samaria gorge which is Crete's pride, as no such other exists in Europe.

They are right, but Imbros gorge is also well worth seeing. It may be small but it is most picturesque and full of wildness.
